In all the readings, I especially like "The Remembered Image." There are so many of my memories that are one single photograph that includes emotion, movement, mood, smells, and even what the weather was like. The concept of a remembered image intrigued me as an artist more than anything because so much of what I do is one moment frozen on paper. I wanted to create something that was striking and would stick in people's minds, like a catchy tune or an especially poignant photograph.

This actually started out as a sketch in Photoshop for my first-ever digital painting.  When I finished it, I thought it lacked a setting.  This assignment gave me a good excuse to play around with it some more, so I added lots of transparent layers of old things--maps, ships, and engravings.  With all the pirate craze lately, I figured this would catch a few eyes.

'pirate-map-and-bottle.jpg' is the image I created for this assignment. In total, this took me about 14 hours. Ten of those were spent on the original drawing of the bottle and map, which I have included under the 'map-and-bottle.jpg' file.
